Step up - Volunteer!
Thank you for your interest in volunteering for our therapeutic riding program! Working with people with disabilities and horses is a unique combination which often results in special bonds being formed with the riders, other volunteers, staff members and of course, the horses. Our program relies on volunteers to make our lessons safe, productive and fun for everyone involved. You will watch students develop their riding skills and become physically stronger as well as achieve improved self-esteem and confidence. As a volunteer, you will learn and achieve alongside our riders.
A successful therapeutic riding program relies heavily on volunteers to assist riders before, during, and after their lessons. All volunteers must complete a half day volunteer training to learn unique rider assistance techniques and horse handling methods. Volunteers can use this experience to meet community service requirements for their school. Volunteers who are at least 14 years of age can serve as Side walkers and Horse Leaders in the arena during therapeutic lessons. Junior volunteers (under age 14) play an important role in assisting riders before and after the lessons and helping volunteers and the instructors as needed.
If you (or someone you know) is interested in volunteering at The Right Step, contact us to find out how TRS can benefit from your skills and enthusiasm!
Volunteer training is held from 8 AM to 11 AM on the second Saturday of each month. Join us; we look forward to working with you!!!
