Orientation & Side Walker Training

  • The Right Step, Inc. 5200 West Coal Mine Avenue Littleton, CO, 80123 United States (map)

All new volunteers at TRS are required to attend our Orientation and Side Walker Training before working with participants. Led by Instructor Julianna, this comprehensive training provides an introduction to our adaptive horsemanship programs, equine-assisted activities, and the role volunteers play in supporting a safe and inclusive environment.

The session begins with a barn tour, an overview of our programs, and a detailed safety review covering horse handling protocols, emergency procedures, and volunteer expectations. Volunteers will then move into Side Walker training, where they will learn proper positioning, communication techniques, and how to safely support participants during mounted lessons.

Side Walkers work directly alongside our clients, providing physical and emotional support while helping participants build confidence, strength, and independence. Because this role is essential to the safety and success of our programs, this training is mandatory for all new volunteers.

Please note: Volunteers must complete all required paperwork and register for the training through VicNet prior to attending.

Volunteers can reserve their space here: https://www.volgistics.com/vicnet/login
